Dr. Ecstasy
Dr. Ecstasy (NYtimes, reg required)This article describes the man who uncovered Ecstasy, who believes in "the pursuit and celebration of chemically-induced alternate realms of consciousness" and has had at least 4,000 psychedelic experiences. He has created over 200 such compounds, and tested many of them on himself. It's interesting to read about such different mindsets about the use of psychedelic drugs, especially in the light of the new Ecstasy studies. I truly believe that such compounds do have theraputic potential, and that studies should be done, though I'm not sure I'd be willing to go through all the red tape to design such a study.
